Hopewell Farmstay is a working Karoo farm in the Steynsburg district of the Eastern Cape where Merino and Dorper sheep and Sussex cattle are farmed.
It is an off-the-grid farm stay where you get to enjoy a break-away with only candles or LED lights, a gas geyser, stove and fridge. There is limited cellphone signal. The LED lights are able to charge cellphones.
Upon entering the house there is a small reading nook where you can read a book or two on a quiet afternoon, which flows into a spacious open plan dining room and sunroom. The house has wooden floors throughout, giving it a lovely character. The fully equipped self-catering kitchen has a gas stove and gas fridge.
The spacious original farmhouse can sleep up to 8 guests in 4 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double four poster bed which Riana’s Dad, Oupa Danie Joubert made. The woodwork of which replicates the gables of their house when they lived in Stellenbosch. It has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet. The 2nd bedroom has twin single beds and the 3rd bedroom has 3 single beds. The 4th bedroom has one single bed. There is one full family bathroom with a corner bath, shower and toilet as well as a separate toilet. Hot water is supplied with the gas geyser.
You can enjoy a braai in either the inside braai in the kitchen or outside on the stoep.
The farm is dependent on rain and has a summer rainfall season. There is a small dam close to the house where you can enjoy sundowners or a little further is a lovely big dam, Moolman’s Dam, perfect for picnics on the banks or bird viewing. For those looking for a bit of adventure, you can hike up Bulberg where you’ll have magnificent views from the top. If you own a bicycle, bring it along, as there are some beautiful routes on and around the farm.
Activities you can look forward to on the farm:
Approximately 14km down the road you can view the Orange Fish Tunnel which brings water from the Gariep Dam to the farms along the Teebus River. It is essential to make an appointment for the viewing. Please indicate your interest when making your booking.
We have a minimum two-night stay policy throughout the year for a better farmstay experience.
This self catering farmstay is a nature lover’s dream – with plenty of space, birds, animals, stars and so much more.
Come and experience it.
