One of our dreams was to offer lunches for bus tour groups and in 2007 this dream came true. We offer lunches for tour groups who like to give their guests a feel of a working South African farm.
Add enough time for a visit to our shearing shed, an old Anglo Boer War English Barracks, and if you’re stopping over in the shearing season you might even get to see how we shear sheep, by hand.
We also take you on a short walk down the road to show you our Hillston Cottage guest house and the original braai lapa / rondawel which was a Blockhouse during the Anglo Boer War.
For the more adventurous, and if there’s enough time, there’s a lovely kopje behind the farmhouse which can be climbed where you’ll get incredible views of the farm.
We can serve up to 30 guests either al fresco in our expansive garden or on our stoep or in the dining room, depending on the weather.
We have a lovely swimming pool if any guests feel like having a dip in fresh borehole water.
Hillston is the perfect stopover for tour groups travelling down from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth / Cape Town or Durban to Cape Town. We are approximately 155km off the N1 and about 35km from the turn-off to Cradock from Steynsburg and about 54km to Middelburg.
The farm is situated 5km off the R56 halfway between Middelburg and Steynsburg.
There are plenty of interesting spots to visit in our area should you be interested in making a longer stop and possibly overnighting in Middelburg. We’d love to assist you plan your tour in our area.
